TESTIMONY + AUTHOR = DERRICK CLARK

Wellllll we are back! It's been a minute since I SHINE some LIGHT!! This brings me joy to spotlight someone! We are surrounded by so many people that are making a mark!

And what better way to kick off the Comeback of the BLOG, but with "Doc", that's what we call him!!! But to be political correct ....Derrick Clark.
He has a testimony...a story...a mission...a purpose! Let's hear what he has to tell!

We SALUTE you my brotha!

Continue to SHINE!

✌ & Blessings

How did you decide to write a book?
⁃ Writing the book was and is part of a mandate given to me to “tell my testimony.” If ever I’ve claimed to have heard the voice of God, it was at the first prison I was shipped to. I think I was walking around the unit of the prison when I heard “tell your testimony and I’ll bless you.” That’s all I heard! From there, I started telling it, but I also started writing it in prison as well.

Was it a hard process to proofread?
⁃ The hardest part about proofreading the book was me being anxious, knowing that I was almost on my way to completing the book itself. After I put the manuscript in the hands of the publisher (Imagery Publishing), I had to trust the process and the editor. We completed two proofs of the book.
Tell us about your youth and growing upon Greenville, NC?
⁃ In hindsight, growing up in Greenville was very interesting! After my mother moved out of Kearny Park Projects, I remember living or hanging in every known neighborhood in the city! That alone allowed me to know and be known by everyone. Then, there was baseball. Baseball introduced me to the “other side of town,” which introduced me to a different atmosphere. So, on one side of town, there was this conflicting normalcy that included drugs and crime! While the other side of town was a consistent novelty (experience)! I had no idea how the two sides constructed my philosophy about success, but when I started selling drugs, I knew I wanted to have what they had on the other side of town!
If you could sing one song on American Idol, what would it be?
⁃ Well, of course I’d choose one of my original songs that I wrote called “He Delivered Me.” But if I had to choose a song by someone else, it would be Marvin Sapp’s “Never Would Have Made It.” However, let’s be really clear here: “I’m a writer...not a singer.” ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Ž

If you were on an island and could only bring 3 things, what would you bring?
⁃ Three things on an Island: 1) Anything to communicate with my family...I’m always worried about their well being. 2) I hope I’d have access to pure, clean water on an island but I would bring a never ending supply of Ginger Ale! 3) A knife of some sort! Gotta be ready to kill something...to eat! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคž๐Ÿพ
If you were a box of cereal, what would you be and why?
⁃ Raisin Bran Crunch...I’m insoluble, good for your digestive system and pleasing to your taste buds! ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพ‍♂️

You are a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be and why?
⁃ Mixtures of blues and greens: Call it “EverBluereen” Blue is the color of safety and green is the color of prosperity! That’s what I would like to represent!
If there was a movie produced about your life, who would play you?
⁃ Denzel Washington have to be me, Mr. Hudson, in my (soon to be) movie. Most of his roles are serious and straight up. I’m SERIOUS and STRAIGHT UP!

What was the last gift you gave someone?
⁃ If paying it forward is a gift, I leaned over a woman’s shoulder in McDonald’s the other day to see what her bill was. She looked at me as if I were trying to scope out what was in her purse! ๐Ÿ˜‚ But when the cashier told her the price, I pulled the money out of my pocket to pay for her meal! A gift, I hope!

What are you listening to right now in your car?
⁃ IHeart Radio...gospel and inspirational...gospel rap but last notable was Nas Radio!
Favorite Restaurant & Food
⁃ As of late, it’s been anything seafood! We have a movement around this way urging Blacks to shop “Black-owned Food Trucks and restaurants.” I’m making my way around!
