HAND-CRAFTED +UNIQUE = LE' BIJOU DESIGNS

How did you get started?

I got started a little over 10 years ago and yes that's a long time to not be further along as I should be. But as the saying goes things happen in due time and when they're supposed to so here I am  my start is simple, I saw a piece of costume jewelry or two that I was very interested in. 

At the time with a then friend she turns to me and says aren't we going to the craft store later? And I replied yes why? She said as she looked at the materials and components of a necklace we were interested in and said I think we can make this! She said at least let's just do it for fun and see what becomes of it. 

The moral of the story is we got the materials needed had a girls night in on a Friday night with some awesome snacks music and wine we put together our creations and were quite proud of them. 

At the time I was working for a university in the admissions office I wore my creation to work that I was proud of didn't think nothing of it other than I like the way it went with my outfit LOL. 

People start asking hey where did you get that I like that I want to purchase one. I said to each of them that asked I made this myself I said with a smile and a sense of pride which I rarely get pretty humble always have always will be. 

The reaction and response I wasn't expecting along with the accolades and request to recreate something for them as well. 

So these are my humble beginnings. my company has grown simply even to this day Word of Mouth and the honor of being displayed at MOODS and now Soul Village.

Does making jewelry put you in a calm mood?

Yes creating jewelry definitely puts me in a calm space if you will give helps to Center me which is much needed at times.

Where are you from….by way of?

I am a proud brooklynite I grew up in the Bed Stuy and Park Slope areas of the city. Later moved to Maryland where I also grew up and became a young adult.

If you could sing one song on American Idol, what would it be?

"Optimistic" by: The Sounds of Blackness. Even to this day this song gives me such strength and Renewed Energy even at my most down moments it gives me hope to continue on and that the Most High has and continues to look out for me.

If you were on an island and could only bring three things, what would you bring?

My family first and foremost they are my strength.  I would bring music because music is coming it's healing among other things it brings peace. I will bring materials so that can always create.

If you were a box of cereal, what would you be and why?

Shredded Wheat simply because there's not a lot of artificial stuff going on with it like the powdered sugar sweeteners Etc or color dye. This would represent for me being natural down to earth and healthy as I've been trying to do for the last several years both internally and externally and mentally.

You are a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be and why?

I have always been drawn to purple purple represents royalty but even before I knew that it was just such a calming color believe it or not for me also beautiful and comes in many shades.
