Pain + Saving Lives + Dequanda = SOCAF

I met this Sista at work and we started talking, after a few times of great conversation we became really cool. We have created a friendship that is unbreakable. We have attended a lot of events together and she has been on board since I started this GoodVibez Movement. Dequanda has a lot going on but one thing that is very dear to her heart is her Non-Profit SOCAF. She is a TRUE meaning of a STRONG woman!!! Check it out this great story…

How did you get started? I got started because of the broken pieces I had buried. I took those broken pieces and turned them into a work of art that spoke told a powerful story.  This story  impacted many lives so I turned my pain into purpose and SOCAF was formed.
Why did you decide to start the non-profit?  I decided to start Saving Our Children and Families, Inc. as a result of turning my pain into purpose. Through the organization I regained my voice.
Share a time that your story helped someone else.  My story seems to help both and women who are ready to find their voice.  In one of my prevention training classes a 65 year old grandmother raising granddaughters disclosed  of being sexually abused as a child.  She never felt comfortable before to disclose but on this day she did.  In that moment, I realized that my message had purpose.
Tell us about your annual event. The "Unsung Heroine Award” is designed to recognize women and men who
make a difference in the lives of children, but has not been recognized for their contributions.

If you were a box of cereal, what would you be and why? Honey Bunches of Oats... Lots of layers to the cereal ...Hard on the outside and sweet on the inside.
You are a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be and why? Ombre , because I am a gradual blend of color hue to another. My life has  moved from light to dark and dark to light. This color represents my journey from victim to survivor.
If there was a movie produced about your life, who would play you and why? Viola Davis would play me.  Viola would play me well because of her strength and powerful pressence.  She has endured childhood hunger which I am sure was very traumatic and gave her strength to endure.
